Everest Base Camp Trek From Salleri

The Everest Base Camp Trek from Salleri offers an invigorating and peaceful journey through the mesmerizing Everest region. This lesser-known route provides a unique and less crowded experience, allowing you to enjoy extraordinary views and traverse less trafficked paths before joining the conventional trek to the Everest base camp.

Embarking on the Everest Base Camp Trekking from Salleri presents an alternative path in the Everest area. It offers a cost-effective way to explore the Himalayas without the need for a one-way flight to Lukla. This trek is particularly suitable for those with ample vacation time but a limited budget. Instead of taking a regular flight from Kathmandu to Phaplu, we recommend driving from Kathmandu to Salleri to embark on this new and exciting adventure. The journey to Salleri takes you through stunning landscapes, along winding river banks, and introduces you to various ethnic communities. It is an adventurous experience that takes you off the beaten path of the Everest region.

The Salleri to Everest Base Camp Trek route merges with the Jiri Everest base camp trek at Ringu. This route takes you across highlands and passes, offering breathtaking mountain scenery, including the majestic Mt. Everest. You will also follow a section of the Everest base camp trekking route, where legendary climbers Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa left their mark during their historic ascent to the top of the world in 1953.

The journey to Everest Base Camp can also be started from Salleri, which is a great option for trekkers who are not accustomed to high altitudes. Salleri is located at an elevation of 2390m, allowing trekkers to acclimatize properly before reaching their destination. Unlike those who start from Lukla, many people who choose this route are able to avoid altitude sickness.

While Lukla is known for its beautiful runway airport and scenic views, some travelers prefer to skip the expensive airfare and fly directly to Lukla. The trek from Salleri offers a less crowded and more authentic experience, as the area is relatively untouched by modernization. Staying in local tea cottages provides a warm and genuine hospitality that adds to the unforgettable nature of the journey.

Moreover, choosing the Salleri to Everest Base Camp Trek also supports the local community by providing them with tourism opportunities and helping improve their livelihoods. The meals provided along the trek are sourced from local farms, promoting sustainable eco-tourism.

To begin this trek, one can travel from Kathmandu to Salleri via the BP Koirala highway, which takes approximately 8 to 9 hours by jeep or bus. The road conditions have improved, making it a better option for transportation compared to previous years.

The drive through the towns, hills, riverbank, and picturesque peaks offers a breathtaking experience. The road passes by Pattale village, which is currently developing as a homestay destination. This town is gaining popularity among both domestic and international travelers. It is renowned for its stunning views of Mt. Everest (8,848.86m), Gaurishankar (7135m), Makalu (8,463m), and more.

Afterwards, the trek takes you through the Rai and Sherpa towns of Ringmu, Taksindu, Munthala (Manidingma), Surke, Chaorikharak, and finally leads to Chheplung, the main path to Mt. Everest. The district is called Solukhumbu, with Salleri serving as its headquarters. Below Lukla is Solu, while above Lukla is considered the Khumbu region.

As you approach Lukla, you will encounter a multitude of trekkers rushing towards their destination. Crossing the suspension bridge can sometimes be challenging due to traffic from Yaks, Dzomo, or Jhopke, as well as porters and trekkers. The landscape transitions from temperate vegetation to alpine vegetation as you enter Sagarmatha National Park at Manjo. Following the main trail to Mt. Everest Base Camp, you will be treated to stunning mountain panoramas and pass through Sherpa villages such as Panbuche, Dingboche, and Lobuche. Beyond Namche Bazaar, you will eventually reach EBC (5,360m) and the famous viewpoint, Kalapathar (5,555m). Despite the cold, the sunset view from Kalapathar is truly extraordinary, especially with Mt. Everest so close by. Witnessing the Khumbu icefall and Khumbu glacier adds to the allure of this journey.

If you have more time, you can continue trekking beyond Phaplu. However, if you are short on time but still wish to experience the Everest Base Camp Trek, you can fly from Kathmandu to Andheri to save time and money. It takes approximately 3 to 4 hours to drive from Salleri to Andheri, followed by a 2 to 3-hour hike to reach Lukla.

We are pleased to arrange the Salleri to Everest Base Camp Trek with skilled local Guides based on your requirements and itinerary. Gain valuable experience in the Himalayas as you journey through the captivating Sherpa culture. The trail will lead you back to Lukla for your return home. While it is feasible to embark on an EBC trek from Salleri and Phaplu throughout the year, we recommend Spring (mid-March to May) and autumn (mid-September to November) as the optimal seasons.
